The Great Adventure!

One of my favorite songs by Steven Curtis Chapman is "Saddle up your horses" on his album titled: "The Great Adventure." Ever since I was a little girl I have loved horses. Maybe it is because when I was little I can remember going and visiting my Grandmother in Ohio and I would watch my Dad ride on this big beautiful horse that my Grandmother's neighbors owned. He would get on the horse bareback and would run him as fast as the wind. I could sense the power of the horse as I watched my Dad ride her. I also could sense the excitement of my Dad as he anticipated the fast ride as if it was a ride of freedom!
I use to love to go fast but the older I get I find cruising is more my speed. I now have a tendency to be more cautious and have slowed down a bit.
But when I was a little girl my Dad would take me for rides on his motorcycle and that was a thrill of a lifetime for me. Feeling the wind blow through my hair was fullness of joy. Of course he had to go fast because I wasn't content with him just puttering along. I would tell him: "faster Daddy faster!" I am sure it made my mom a nervous wreck. I can remember my Dad saying: "okay honey I will go a little faster but I am not going to go any faster than this." But I would still beg all the more for him to go faster, "faster Daddy faster!" I'm sure there were times that he went faster than my mom would approved of, but nevertheless I am thankful for those memories as a child.

I can remember having no fear on those motorcycle rides with my Dad. As far as I was concerned harm couldn't touch me because after all I was with my Daddy. I felt totally safe and protected in his care.

I am so thankful for all the good memories that I have as a child with my Dad, because it has made it easier for me to relate to my Heavenly Father. Just as I trusted my Dad while on those fast motorcycle rides, I trust my Heavenly Father while in the fast lane of "LIFE."

It's a Great Adventure living this life of Faith. You really never know what is going to happen from one day to the next. Each day we live we will experience life's ups and downs. But I know that as long as I am riding with the Lord (my Heavenly Daddy) I have nothing to fear because He is the one in control.

It is up to each one of us to choose to make our time with the Lord an exciting time of trusting Him or a worrisome time of fearing what each day may hold.
This is the day that the Lord has made I will rejoice and be glad in it!

I am going to make the best of each new day that the Lord gives me so that I can experience the Great adventure of Faith in Him and with Him.

Just like being on that motorcycle with my Dad and feeling the cool breeze blow upon me, I will enjoy feeling the refreshing winds of the Holy Spirit blow upon me as well. Just as the winds blew through my hair as I trusted my Daddy on those fast motorcycle rides I will trust My Heavenly Father with His refreshing winds.

Now the question needs to be asked, are you trusting your Heavenly Daddy while riding in this Great Adventure called Life and holding onto Him?"

What a perfectly timed post, with the current economic situation of our country. It's true that our source is our Father, not our job, not our 401K's and certainly not the government. This certainly is the time to be trusting Him, even when it does get scary. Great thought here! Thanks for sharing and blessings to you!

Hi Tamela,

Nice to see you back. I though you were away for Thanksgiving, but I see from your comment you say you were working.

I often think of things to write about when I read your posts. Your talking about your relationship with your father on his motorcycle and how that helped you trusting our Heavenly Father takes me back to my own relationship with my dad, a bicycle and perhaps why it took me so long to believe in God.

I am going to follow up my posts on animals with a story I wrote and then I think I'll do a post about my early youth that fits the time of the story and your memories.

Tamela,

I loved the description of you riding with your dad on the motorcycle, feeling your dad's protection.

My dad, too, provides a great example for me and makes it easy to trust in God the Father. All dads have a responsibility to provide fatherly love to their children and to point the way to God.

Thanks for your post! It brings back great memories of the times my dad and I have spent together.

In Him,
Joel (nutuba)

I love your post about trusting God and enjoying life when we are able to rest and trust Him! God's working on that with me!

Today I wrote about Laura Ingalls in Little House in the Big Woods. The relatioship she had with her Dad reminds me a lot of what you are talking about with your Dad. How neat to be able to relate that relationship to our Heavenly Father!

Bless you, Tamela! Jenny

Great analogy, Tamela! God has indeed instituted the family and rested great responsibility upon parents to raise their children, to point us to Him. It's a perfect plan! :)

Growing up, I had a great relationship with my dad, which, in turn, has taught me to be a better father to my own son... though I don't think I'm as patient as he was....

Hi Tamela,

Love that song too! Yes, what an awesome ride with our Heavenly Daddy! It is so wonderful to know that He's in the driver's seat, and I'm in for the ride of my life!

A cute story and a good earthly Father demonstrates to some degree the power and safety of the heavenly Father, God.

Cute photo, as well. Thanks Tamela.

Hello Tracy,

I am thankful that we have the Lord to trust in. I would be a hopeless, worrisome and miserable person if didn't have Him in my life.

Good to hear from you again :)

Nutuba,

Thanks, You are right all Fathers have the responsibility to point their children to the Lord. May we never forget to pray for all fathers. I truly believe they have the greatest calling of all!

Hello Jenny,

God is so patient He is still working on us all. I still have a tendency to worry sometimes which of course is the opposite of trusting. But I am getting better with the Holy Spirit's help to not allow things to bother me as much anymore. When i begin concerning myself with issues now I am quickly checked. At that point i remember to TRUST in the Lord and lean not upon my own understanding!

Greetings Tamela,

Indeed if the Father is driving the motorcycle, there is no reason not to let Him open the throttle. It gives new meaning to the phrase, "Going out for a 'joy' ride."

Amen!!

My motorcycle experience was total opposite! I only went once with a guy my parents barely knew when I was probably about junior high age. I think he wanted to give me a "thrill" ride, because it felt like we were going too fast, and I wasn't sure I would survive the ordeal! I remember praying, "Lord, get me back home safe!" Lol! Haven't gotten on a motorcycle since! Then again, I haven't had that opportunity again. I think I'd be glad to hop on there with my heavenly Father. :-)

Robin,

Hello and thank you for your kind words, I am so thankful that He allows me to experience His refreshing winds, I know that He does the same for you as well. I sense that we might have a kindred spirit when it comes to our relationship with the Lord.

Hi Tamela,
I like your analogy of enjoying a ride on a motorcycle with your dad as trusting the Lord. I also like the analogy that Henry Blackaby made in Experiencing God. He says that trusting the Lord is like giving the keys to your car to the Lord and letting Him drive you where ever He desires.
Blessings,
Vicki

Wow Tammy :) , that was a great analogy as we should all be living like this each and everyday . Of course life will take us in different directions and some we may not understand at the time but at the end of the day if we keep our trust in our father we will always be protected and guided down the right path ! Great stuff as always :)

T.,
Thanks for reminding me to stop by. My apologies. I missed your blog when it moved up my blog list.

The story about horses reminds me of my time on the farm in Ohio. I had a pony named Gidget.

The current situation in our country does require us to have that kind of faith in our Heavenly Father. We are in for a bumpy ride.

Hey Jim,

I think your right about that, may we hold on tight and not lose our trust in the Lord (our Heavenly Daddy)

Light breaking forth!

Have you ever been studying God's Word and suddenly there is a quickening in your spirit and you have understanding that gives you deepe...
